Glimpses of Greece: Improving your Destination Identification

By on

Sometimes we just want to take it easy for a bit.  Sit back, take a load off.  Well you can do that and still see some great travel destinations.  Movies are filmed in some truly travel-worthy locations.   You can even challenge yourself to identify the filming location in the movies you watch to test your travel savvy – the real location is often far from the said location in the film.

Adventures in Greece were had by Angelina Jolie in the sequel Laura Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life which graced the island of Santorini.

Matt Damon was in Mykonos to film The Bourne Identity.  The closing scenes of the movie were filmed there, not a bad way to wrap up a work assignment.  Kefalonia (also written Cephallonia) was part of the set for Captain Corelli’s Mandolin with Nicolas Cage and Penelope Cruz as well.  A love story with romantic, stunning scenery.  And that’s just the tip of the iceberg – this website has a list of movies and descriptions.

If you’re not sure that you’ll recognize the Greek landscapes at first glance, check out our magazine issue on travel in Greece.  We show you some great highlights around the mainland and the islands.  The focus is on the mainland, including Cephallonia, and we also take you on a tour through the islands through photos and video.  The most recent issues are always free in the app.
