Escape Tokyo: Day Trips from the City

Capital cities are often the first places we hear about and that we see in a new country.  These destinations are in the media, they are often hubs of transportation and they may even bring back memories of school days memorizing the world’s capital cities.

For travelers, going beyond these megacities into the surrounding areas may be the key to really experiencing the culture and to interacting with local people and nature.  Adrian Qais of The Art of Backpacking has discovered some of the attractions outside the great city of Tokyo and we think they’re share worthy!  Check out his short but sweet list here.  As he explains:

Sometimes you just need a break from all the hustle and bustle. Since arriving in Japan I’ve been trying to figure out where some of the coolest day/weekend trips from Tokyo are and I think I’ve finally done it.
